I am sure you have heard the saying “do what I say and not what I do”. Well I am sure most of us know it doesn’t work like that. Your kids are watching everything you do. They watch how you talk about others and how you talk about yourself. They see you when you are fussing about how bad you look in a dress and they see you when you are feeling like a rockstar. So stop and think. What do you want for your daughter? Do you want her to be self conscious and have low self esteem? Probably not! Who would want that for their child.
I know when I was growing up my mother had severe self esteem issues. She was so concerned with how much she weighed or what people might be saying about her. Now I love my mom so insanely much. I know she wasn’t trying to put that on me. But you know what it happened. I became insanely insecure. I was obsessed with not looking or being good enough. I though people were always talking about me. Honestly, it was really really hard and I still work to this day to get past my issues.
But guess what? I’m a mom now. I am the one influencing a little girl (and a little boy). What does that mean as I continue to work through my personal insecurities? It means I have to be conscious of my words and actions. It means I am very intentional about how I talk about myself in front of my daughter. I am extremely conscious on how I treat myself in front of her. I have to model who I want her to be, even if it feels uncomfortable to me.
To put it simply if you want the world for your children you have to be the example. These images here are from Dominque and her daughter doing just that. Dominque is showing her daughter how to be strong, confident and full of love. It is too beautiful not to share.
